Get ready for the ride of your life. Our Tenorio rafting day tour takes you from Monteverde to the Tenorio River and back, with plenty of sightseeing, rapid-riding and Costa Rican dining in between.
What if you could combine the excitement of a roller coaster with the natural beauty of a tropical river? You absolutely can.
Rafting the Tenorio River is like riding nature’s most thrilling roller coaster — with much better scenery and without the long lines.
Proximity to the Tenorio Volcano, Class 3 and 4 rapids and drops as high as 12 feet have made the Tenorio River rafting experience one of the most popular among adventure-seekers in Costa Rica.
Near the inactive Tenorio Volcano, the waters of the Tenorio River rise and reach speeds perfect for peak enjoyment. Big waves crash over the bow of your raft as you shoot through narrow passages, around sharp turns, and over waterfalls.
The Cascabel Falls point in the Tenorio Rafting tour takes participants over a 12-foot drop that’s sure to leave you both drenched and breathless. The more than 20 rapids on this tour reach Class 3 and 4 speeds at various points, but not to worry — you will have an expert guide to lead the way and make sure all the fun comes with absolute safety.
Rafting is the main attraction on this Tenorio day tour, but there’s plenty more to enjoy. The seven-hour tour will begin at 7 a.m., when your guide has picked you up at your Monteverde hotel.
From there, you travel to the Tenorio River in Guanacaste with a gorgeous view of the area’s mountains.
Upon arrival at the river entry point, you will be fitted with whitewater rafting gear and hear some brief safety recommendations.
Then, it’s time to hit the rapids. Your guide will steer the raft and give you and your companions instructions along the thrilling ride. It’s nearly impossible to finish the rafting course without your heart racing and your smile reaching from ear to ear.
Drenched and smiling, you will travel to Route One restaurant to get into some dry clothes. All the activity will likely leave you ravenous — perfect timing to enjoy a Costa Rican meal at Route One.
With your belly full and your desire for Tenorio rafting thrills satisfied, you can relax in an air-conditioned van as you travel back to Monteverde. The WiFi and lush rainforest scenery are complimentary.
This Tenorio rafting tour is recommended for any adventure-seeker between the ages of 10 and 65. Keep in mind that whitewater rafting is not recommended for pregnant women and those who are not prepared to handle a day filled with physical activity. The minimum number of people for this tour is two.
To prepare for the rafting tour, make sure you pack secure and comfortable shoes, a dry change of clothes and some clothes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Thrilling rapids! Class lll rafting tour was by far the best experience while in Costa Rica.
Beautiful jungle and landscapes. The rapids were amazing, I highly recommend this tour for adventure seekers.
Expert guides made our experience exciting and safe.
Great for beginners, despite the intensity, as first-time rafters we felt secure thanks to clear instruction.
Memorable experience for me and my friends! Unforgettable and worth repeating.
Monteverde to Tenorio Rafting TourSuper fun rafting experience! The first half is not intense at all, some paddling here and there. The second half is when the fun begins, a couple medium rapids and then a huge drop/giant rapid at the end. If you are a beginner rafter this is very doable- many of my friends were nervous and never rafted before and were pleasantly surprised. Also our guide Luis was the absolute best. Great sense of humor made the rafting experience 10x more fun. He was also super informative, we learned so much about different Costa Rican plants and animals. Our journey wouldn't have been the same without him. Definitely bring a change of clothes for after rafting and I would recommend bringing water and sunscreen on the raft itself.
AMAZING experience! My friends and I went to Costa Rica for my 30th birthday and had a FABULOUS time rafting! We were a group of 6 that was split up into 2, both our guides were fun and experienced to make our first timers feel comfortable. I hands down recommend this experience!! We had Allan and Felipe as our guides. We are super excited to come back in rain season for bigger faster water!
We have done multiple white water rafting trips over the years and this one was one of the best. We can’t wait to come back and do it again!
