If you’re a foodie who thinks you’ve experienced it all, you’re wrong — that is, unless you have had the San Lucas Treetop Dining Experience before.
World-class contemporary Central American fusion describes the food, but it doesn’t capture the experience. That’s because the delicious food is served in a treetop restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you’re looking for a unique experience during your visit to Costa Rica, this is it.

In most parts of the cloud forests in and around the Monteverde area, you can look up and see a misty canopy. Brilliantly colored birds glide from branch to branch. The sun sends its warm rays in spears through the mist to the cool, damp ground below.
In a private part of the forest a half mile from Downtown Santa Elena, you can see all of that when you look up. But about 50 feet into the canopy, you’ll see something else: a complete restaurant. You may even smell the delicious aromas before you see it.
Climb up to the restaurant, and you’ll find a world of fine food and drink being served up by friendly and welcoming staff. And you’ll soon join the delighted patrons eating their food in the company of the Cloud Forest canopy.
For a fixed price, guests enjoy a seven-course meal in the treetops. And every dish in all four variations of the menu comes with a story about a unique aspect of the Monteverde region. As you eat, you learn about the place you’re in from the waiter. Trust us — it makes the food taste even better.
The seven courses can accommodate omnivorous, pescatarian, no-fish, and vegetarian or vegan diets without sacrificing any quality. The typical course includes an aperitif, greeter, appetizer, first course, second course, dessert, and a farewell.
During the dining, guests can enjoy a wide variety of local and imported wines, as well as a number of other drinks.
You won’t have to travel far to have this unforgettable dining experience. The San Lucas Treetop Dining area is strategically located in the hotel zone of Monteverde and sits only a half mile from Downtown Santa Elena.
The San Lucas Treetop Dining Experience is by reservation only. That’s because seating remains limited for an intimate dining experience. There are only five tables, four of which are for couples; the other is a family table that can seat eight.
Make your reservation early to ensure that you get a spot. The entire experience takes two and a half hours, and reservations are available from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Families with children may be interested in booking a separate picnic table for an extra fee — this option includes limited, kid-friendly courses.
The experience is always a beautiful sight, but the best time to come is, without a doubt, at sunset.
Fine dining in the treetops of one of the world’s most unique rainforest ecosystems — the Monteverde Cloud Forest — may not have been on your bucket list before, but you need to add it. Then, you need to check it off the list. It’s high time you had the San Lucas Treetop Dining Experience.
There’s no better way to make a lifelong travel memory — and enjoy unbeatable Costa Rican food in the process.
