During the month of May, the weather in Los Suenos and Jaco is warm and pleasant. On land, the temperature usually hovers around the mid-80s, making it an ideal time for vacations. Offshore, the Pacific is calm with little to no wind and low waves. This makes for excellent conditions to venture out and explore deep sea opportunities. The average water temp offshore is around 75°F, providing excellent conditions for catching Sailfish, big Tuna, and those elusive Black Marlin.
Inshore waters are also excellent for fishing right now. The average ocean temperature inshore is around 80°F, making it ideal for species such as Roosterfish, Snook, and Jacks. As the weather continues to hold steady, the conditions couldn’t be better for both offshore and inshore fishing.
Offshore waters out of Los Suenos Marina are offering great opportunities for anglers to experience some fantastic fishing during May. There is a wide variety of fish species that can be caught in these waters year-round, including Striped Marlin and Sailfish. Dorado (Mahi Mahi) presence has been steadily growing over the past couple of months and will hit peak abundance in May. Dorado’s strongest numbers are from May-December. Blue and Black Marlin up to 600 pounds can be caught during May as well. These powerful fish are highly prized by anglers from around the globe. Yellowfin Tuna are in their peak season right now, which typically lasts from January-July. Extremely strong and constantly moving, Yellowfin Tuna offers an adrenaline pumping chase and an excellent fishing experience. Expect a tough fight, with some of these muscular fish weighing up to 300 pounds. Los Suenos is a hotspot for big game fishing, and anglers can expect to have an unforgettable trip during May.
Inshore fishing during May offers a chance for anglers to catch a wide variety of fish. The Inshore waters out of Los Suenos are teeming with fish right now. Many species can be caught year-round, including Snapper, Grouper, and Roosterfish. Roosters are a prized catch among anglers because of their unique appearance. Their aggressive natures results in an exciting and exceptionally tough fight. May-August is peak season for Wahoo and we have been seeing these delicious, tough fighters both solo, and in small schools of about 8-10 fish each. Inshore waters offer a different fishing experience from offshore, with lots of action and a variety of species to catch. If you have more than one day available for fishing during your vacation, you should consider booking a day inshore and a day offshore to get the most for your time on the Pacific.
