Mid-March is when the heat really kicks in across Costa Rica. Average temperatures will be greater than 90°F and rarely fall lower than 85°F. Since the water is warmer, the fish will be more prone to both inshore and offshore locations.

We also expect the cloud cover to increase gradually, and the amount of precipitation will begin as we reach the end of March. So scheduling your fishing charter now is ideal if you want to avoid having to wait out the end of the rainy season.

Offshore Bites

Offshore fishing in Jaco and along the Central Pacific Coast in March is one of the most exciting times of year for an excursion. Not only will you find massive marlin, as the end of March is the last peak of the season, but you can also expect to find more sailfish activity.

These fish are some of the biggest catches and are sure to give you a run for your money when reeling them in. You could expect other types of offshore catches, including tasty dorado and mahi-mahi, wahoo, and billfish.

Inshore Bites

If you tend to stick to inshore fishing, make sure you look for the eye-catching and beautiful roosterfish. These fish are just about out of season, but they are by no means a rare site this month. Roosterfish are also going to put up an incredible fight when you hook them.

You could expect to reel in a 200+ pound tarpon as well, which are drawn to the warm and shallow waters of Los Suenos. In fact, it is not unusual for fishermen to reel in between five and seven tarpon or roosterfish per excursion.
