Offshore, the Pacific ocean is calm and flat and we’re seeing sunny skies every day making for perfect conditions to find the fish. Inshore is toasty and warm, attracting a diverse range of fish closer to the coast. The weather we experience in Los Suenos during this season is always marked by tropical heat day and night, clear skies and abundant sunshine. With the weather playing nice, there’s nothing to distract us from experiencing some top-tier fishing out on the water.
Offshore Bites 🎣🐟
February is showing us an exceptional time offshore this year, with the waters teeming with prized catches. Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin, and Sailfish are all at their peak season right now, offering anglers thrilling opportunities to engage in some bucket-list battles with these formidable fish. While this is peak season for Tuna, Marlin and Sailfish, you can catch Dorado and Wahoo year-round here, often while targeting another species. These kinds of unexpected moments always add an exciting twist to the day, and it’s been happening pretty regularly lately. The Sailfish we’ve been targeting are showing some impressive sizes this year, up to 150 lbs. Meanwhile, bigger Yellowfin are ranging up to 300 lbs, while Marlin are coming in around 300-400 lbs.
Inshore Bites 🎣
In February, inshore fishing in Los Suenos is excellent as the waters are abundant with a diverse array of species. Roosterfish are showing their highest numbers year round as we’re right in the middle of their yearly peak season. We’re also seeing impressive numbers of Snapper, Jacks, Mackerel, Bonita, Grouper, and Tilefish. When we have anglers targeting Snapper, Grouper and Tilefish, we employ bottom fishing techniques, using live or cut bait as the best bet to entice these bottom-dwellers. Catching Bonita in Los Suenos often involves trolling with lures or small baitfish and employing fast retrieval methods to trigger their predatory instincts. Targeting Jack Crevalle calls for artificial lures or live bait while casting near rocky shorelines or flotsam. Inshore fishing this month not only promises the excitement of pursuing Roosters but also offers a variety of other species, making for a great day if you’re seeking a diverse and rewarding inshore experience using a variety of techniques.
