The small eatery’s Canadian owner bakes the breakfast treats daily, along with homemade bread that’s received rave reviews. Available in both American and local style, breakfast combos come with thick-sliced bacon, locally sourced sausage and homemade strawberry jam.
2) Pachi’s Pan for Coffee and Churros
In the center of town, Pachi’s Pan is a local institution known for fresh pastries. Along with fresh-baked bread, they please breakfast lovers with caramel and cream churros. As you might suspect from their name, Costa Juice specializes in fresh-squeezed juices, blending local delectables like pitahaya in their juice-bar beverages. They’re also popular for their bowls, such as dragon fruit and açaí, along with organic coffee and artisan bread.
4) Cafe Bohio for Coffee Aficionados
Another intimate spot in the center of town, Cafe Bohio is all about coffee -- some say they have the best in town. The family-owned cafe roasts their own beans and sell them on site. Start your day with a Bohio-style cold brew with coconut milk or enjoy their signature red honey drip coffee. Their espressos and cappuccinos are famously strong and iced-brews come with unique cubes of frozen coconut milk. While this isn’t the spot for a full stick-to-your-ribs breakfast, they have a nice assortment of sweets including carrot cake and strawberry crumb cake to enjoy with your gourmet java.
5) Eat Like a Local at Soda Jacó Rustico
Those looking for a heartier morning meal would do well to stop by Soda Jacó Rustico. Serving authentic Costa Rican meals to a largely local clientele, the affordable eatery usually draws a big breakfast crowd. Step into a fast-moving buffet line and load up on a breakfast with traditional gallo pinto, eggs, sausages, fruit and strong coffee. Portions are large and prices are low at the local joint that’s off the main strip.
6) Made-to-Order at Soda Garabito
Another popular spot with locals, Soda Garabito serves up cafeteria-style grub at affordable prices. But unlike other local breakfast joints, their eggs are made to order. Enjoy a traditional Costa Rican breakfast with gallo pinto, toast, and plantains in a welcoming spot that’s set away from more-traveled routes in town.
7) Poseidon Restaurant for Sunday Brunch
Just off the beach, Poseidon Restaurant serves daily breakfast in an airy space with great views for people watching. The breakfast menu features both American and Costa-Rican-style dishes, including home fries and bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. Poseidon is also well known for its Sunday brunch, offering Eggs Benedict, mimosas and a mix-your-own Bloody Mary Bar.
